If you only view Walgreens as your neighborhood pharmacy, you are missing out on tons of health, beauty, food, baby, and holiday products. And you can save a lot of money on essentials – but you have to know how to work their system.

It’s common for people to only pay $8 for $60 worth of products using Walgreens coupons and their reward system. There’s even a TikTok hashtag (#walgreenscouponing) with people sharing how much they save!

If you want to know how to work their system, use these 10 top Walgreens hacks to save money.

1. Download the Walgreens App

If you want to get the most out of your Walgreens shopping experience, the app is a must-do for every Walgreens shopper.

When you download the Walgreens app, you can use it to refill prescriptions and order photos from the photo center. Plus, the app makes it easy to save money.

It includes the Weekly ad section where you can “clip” paperless coupons. You can also use the app barcode scanner to check the prices of products while in-store and see if there are any coupons available.

2. Check Out the Weekly Ad

The Walgreens weekly ad is where you’ll find all the deals offered that week (deals start on Sunday and end on Saturday).

You can view the weekly ad within the Walgreens app, or you can pick up the printed weekly ad in the front of the store.

Additionally, you can sign up for a Walgreens newsletter via email. Simply select the Walgreens newsletters you’d like to receive, including weekly ads and extra deals.

Save Even More at Walgreens with Ibotta

When you shop at Walgreens, make sure to check the Ibotta offers. Ibotta is the No. 1 cash-back app for not just groceries, but everyday essentials, too.

3. Join the myWalgreens Loyalty Program to Earn Reward Points When You Shop

Walgreens offers the myWalgreens rewards program for loyal customers (formerly known as Walgreens Balance Rewards).

With myWalgreens, you earn points that accrue as cash rewards whenever you shop at Walgreens.

  • Earn unlimited rewards storewide—even at the pharmacy (1% Walgreens Cash rewards per $1)
  • Earn more rewards on Walgreens branded products (5% Walgreens Cash rewards per $1)

Earn 10 points for every $1 you spend at Walgreens (and a bonus of 50 points for every $1 you spend on Walgreens-branded products). That quickly adds up!

Bonus tip: Purchase Walgreens-branded products where it makes sense to you can accumulate more Walgreens Cash rewards.

4. Earn Register Rewards

One of the easiest ways to save money at Walgreens is to earn register rewards. These rewards are manufacturer coupons that print out from a machine at the register when you pay for your purchases.

If you look at the weekly ad, you can find out which items offer register rewards. These rewards tend to offer discounts such as “Save $2 off your next purchase at Walgreens.”

5. Use Walgreen Store Coupons

In addition to accepting manufacturer’s coupons, Walgreens regularly offers coupons on several products. Walgreens store coupons can be found online and in the myWalgreens app.

If you see a coupon you’d like to redeem in the app, you simply tap it to save it in the app. Once it is loaded into your account, the coupon will be applied when you make a qualifying purchase. Many stores also offer a printed coupon booklet.

6. Sign Up for a myWalgreens Credit Card to Earn Health Rewards

Previously, Walgreens offered customers an opportunity to earn Balance Rewards for staying active and healthy. Unfortunately, this program was terminated in November 2022.

However, in place of this program, Walgreens offers a similar program to those who sign up for the myWalgreens credit card

Essentially, the myWalgreens credit card bumps up the amount of rewards myWalgreens users can earn – including health and active living rewards.

With a myWalgreens credit card, users:

  • Earn unlimited rewards storewide—even at the pharmacy (5% Walgreens Cash rewards per $1)
  • Earn more rewards on Walgreens branded products (10% Walgreens Cash rewards per $1)
  • Earn rewards on grocery and health & wellness purchases outside of Walgreens (3% Walgreens Cash rewards per $1)

In addition, credit card holders:

  • Earn rewards for payments on doctor and dentist co-pays, counseling services, gym membership & many other health and wellness services (3% Walgreens Cash rewards per $1)

Where Can I Find A Rewards Credit Card That’s Perfect For Me?

If you like the idea of a rewards credit card, but you want one with more flexibility or that offers different incentives, then you’re in luck. Credit Land does a great job of breaking down the best rewards offers.

The other day I saw something I had never seen before: A prepaid credit card with up to 10% cash back.

Check out the rewards cards over at Credit Land and see if one makes sense for you.

If so, be sure to use it on Walgreens.com to earn more cash back than you thought.

7. Split Your Purchases to Save Cash and Earn More Rewards

Before you head to the cash register, consider what offers you currently have and see if you’ll save more money by splitting the transaction.

With Register Reward coupons, you can split the transactions to work more in your favor. If there is a promotion that reads “Buy 3, receive $5 Register Rewards,” this does not mean you can buy 6 and get $10 Register Rewards.

But, if you do two separate transactions, you will earn two different $5 Register Rewards (or $10).

8. Become a Beauty Enthusiast

If you shop for beauty products at Walgreens, you need to sign up to be a Beauty Enthusiast.

Beauty Enthusiasts earn a $5 reward (5,000 points) for every $50 spent on beauty and a digital coupon via email for 20X everyday points when you sign up.

It’s free to join. All you need to sign up is a valid email address and a myWalgreens account.

9. Stack Store Coupons with Manufacturer Coupons

One of the biggest Walgreens hacks for saving money is stacking coupons. Couponers love Walgreens for this reason!

You are allowed to use one manufacturer’s coupon with a Walgreens coupon when purchasing a single item.

You can also combine these coupons with myWalgreens rewards. To maximize your savings, remember you can also use manufacturer’s coupons with Walgreens sales (including BOGO sales).

10. Link Your AARP Card for More Savings

If you link your AARP card with your myWalgreens account, you will have access to even more deals.

Linked accounts earn 3% Walgreens Cash rewards on other qualifying beauty and personal care products, 7% Walgreens Cash rewards on store-brand beauty and personal care products, and 10% Walgreens Cash rewards on store-brand health and wellness products.

Additionally, AARP members can enjoy 20% off on regular-price items on the first Tuesday of every month (Seniors Day).
